During the evening of 16 January 2025, two F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft equipped with the Eagle Passive/Active Warning and Survivability System (EPAWSS) arrived at RAF Lakenheath (UK).

With the delivery of the upgraded LN coded F-15Es 91-0329 and 91-0332 to Lakenheath's 48th Fighter Wing, this marks the first operational USAF Strike Eagles, which are integrated with one of the world’s most advanced electronic warfare suites.

It is expected that the two upgraded Strike Eagles, which have been delivered to Lakenheath's 48th Fighter Wing, will be assigned to the 492nd Fighter Squadron and to the 494th Fighter Squadron. This ensures that both squadrons benefit and train with the F-15E's enhanced EPAWSS capabilities.

US EPAWSS coin 320EPAWSS, when combined with the F-35A Lightning II's electronic warfare systems, acts as a powerful force multiplier, transforming nowadays air operations to a new era.

The USAF has been working to modernise the F-15E fleet, ensuring the aircraft remain effective against evolving threats. The EPAWSS-upgrade is designed to enhance the F-15E’s radar warning, geolocation, situational awareness, and self-defense capabilities, enabling the fighters to survive and operate in highly contested environments. The F-15E EPAWSS-upgrade is carried out at Kelly Field Annex near San Antonio (TX).

At this moment it is unknown to Scramble Magazine how many Strike Eagles will receive the EPAWSS upgrade. It is still in debate if the, and in which numbers, F-15Es will be phased out.
