First Grob G120TP training aircraft delivered to Sweden
On Wednesday 15 March 2023, the first three Grob G120TP training aircraft were delivered to Sweden. On their way to Linköping/Malmen, the aircraft, still retaining their civilian test registrations, made a stopover at Ronneby before continuing to Malmen.
On Monday 3 April 2023, the training aircraft, named Sk40 in Swedish service, will officially be handed over to the Svenska Flygvapnet (SwedAF, Swedish Air Force). The trainers will be used for Grundläggande Flygutbildning (GFU, basic flying training)as part of the FlygSkolan (FlygS, Flight School).
A total of seven G120TPs and a simulator will be delivered with an option for further acquisition. The first pilot students will start training in the summer of 2023, but first the flight instructors will complete more flight sessions before they start training new students.
The first three Sk40 (Grob G120TP) training aircraft are: 40198/98 (D-ETPR, c/n 11198), 40199/99 (D-ETPT, c/n 11199) and 40200/00 (D-ETPU, c/n 11200)
On 2 April 2020, Scramble Magazine first reported on the new training concept for the Flygvapnet. In May 2021, the Försvarets materielverk (FMV, Swedish Defence Materiel Administration) officially announced that the Grob G120TP has been selected as the new basic training aircraft.
