First Hungarian KC-390 delivered
On 17 November 2020, the Hungarian Government signed a contract for the purchase of two Embraer multi-mission KC-390 Millennium medium-size, twin-engine, jet-powered military transport aircraft with air-to-air refueling (AAR) capability for the Magyar Légierö (ML, Hungarian Air Force). The contract included training of pilots and technicians and other services.
In April 2024, for a period of three weeks, the KC-390 was at Kecskemét Air Base for additional ground and air testing and installing and verifying specific NATO communication features.
On 5 September 2024, the first Millennium was officially delivered to the Hungarian Air Force. The aircraft arrived at Kecskemét, escorted by two JAS39C Gripen fighters. The transporter had only Hungarian Air Force titles and carried registration PT-ZHP. Future Hungarian serial (610) and nationality markings were taped over.
The KC-390 will be operated by the Szallitó Repülöszázad (Transport Aviation Squadron) Teve (Camel), part of MH vitéz Szentgyörgyi Dezső 101. Repülődandár (101st Tactical Airbase), at Kecskemét.
