First Indonesian A400M takes shape
Work is underway on the first of two Airbus A400M transport aircraft ordered by the Tentara Nasional Indonesia-Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU, Indonesian Air Force).
Currently being constructed at Airbus' Seville plant, the first delivery is scheduled for late 2025. The construction number of the first A400M is 148.
The A400M will bolster Indonesia’s Hercules fleet, particularly for aerial refueling missions, which currently rely on a single KC-130B aircraft.
Initially, in 2018, the plan was to procure two aircraft for use in disaster relief missions as civil aviation assets, with support from the TNI-AU.
By 2021, the defence budget for the two aircraft was approved, and the contract signed with Airbus included an option for four additional units.
