First two Black Hawks delivered to Latvia
On 11 December 2022, a US Air Force C-17A Globemaster III delivered the first two Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to the Latvijas Gaisa Spéki (Latvian Air Force) at Lielvārde air base.
The serials of the Black Hawks are 105 and 106. The corresponding FMS serial is not known at this moment. If you have more information, please let us know at
Already back in August 2018, the US State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) programme, valued at 175 million euros, for four Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawks with related equipment, training of pilots and ground mechanics, and logistical support to the Latvian Air Force.
The new helicopters are in a standard US Government configuration but with designated unique equipment and Government Furnished Equipment (GFE). Among other things, the Black Hawks are equipped with Embedded Global Positioning Systems/Inertial Navigation Systems, Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR) systems, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) transponders, advanced communication suits and Helmet Mounted Night Vision Devices.
The Black Hawks, painted in a light grey colourscheme, will significantly increase its capability to provide troop lift, border security, anti-terrorist, medical evacuation, search and rescue, re-supply/external lift, and combat support in all weather. The Latvian Air Force made a video of the arrival of their new assets.
