Second USAF Super Tucano in retro colours sighted
Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) and Embraer Defense & Security reached another milestone in the production of the second of three A-29B Super Tucano aircraft for the Combat Aviation Advisor (CAA) mission for Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).
On 23 February 2021, A-29B with USAF serial 20-2102 arrived at Sierra Nevada's modification facility at Centennial Airport near Denver (CO).
The final delivery to the USAF of all three aircraft is scheduled for this year, with training and support activities continuing through 2024. Production and assembly of the third Super Tucano is underway at Embraer's facility in Jacksonville (FL).
Earlier, USAF A-29B 20-2101 was already noted. It is expected that the A-29Bs will be added to AFSOC's 6th Special Operations Squadron at Duke Field (FL) in due time.
The aircraft is painted in the heritage color scheme of the P-51 Mustang and P-47 Thunderbolt flown by United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II combat operations in the China, Burma, and India campaigns (circa 1944).
On 12 May 2020, Scramble Magazine reported that the Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) reported that a third A-29B Super Tucano for the Combat Aviation Advisor (CAA) mission for Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) will be delivered.
