Although information is sparse, it is reported that the Tatmadaw Lei (Myanmar Air Force) has ordered an unknown number of FTC-2000G Mountain Eagle light combat aircraft/lead-in fighter trainer.
The fighter trainers will replace the air force's ageing Chengdu F-7s and Nanchang A-5s. Already back in April 2020, China reported that an unnamed South-East Asian country had placed an order for the FTC-2000G, with deliveries expected between 2021 and 2023.
Because of the strict COVID-19 regulations delivery and pilot training has been delayed. It is expected that the jet trainer will be based at Namsang air base in Shan State.
The FTC-2000, developed by the Guizhou Aviation Industry Corporation (GAIC) under the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), was first revealed at the 2001 China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition. They are reported to be produced at a GAIC assembly line in Anshun, Guizhou.
