On 22 February 2023, a Cessna-Textron 208B Grand Caravan EX arrived at Belize City-Philip W Goldson International Airport.
A gift from the US Government, the military looks of the aircraft gave away it is intended for the Belize Defence Force – Air Wing, which calls Belize City its home. The colour scheme of the aircraft resembles that of similar aircraft delivered to Brazil and Panama, with a green-grey camouflage finish.
The aircraft wears serial BDF-08 and has a Belizean flag on the tail. On 16 December 2022, a Cessna 208B EX with construction number 208B5693 (ex N693AB) was deregistered from the FAA-register and may well be the aircraft involved.
The delivery of the Cessna 208B EX means a significant boost in capabilities of the Air Wing, which operates only a handful of aircraft. Its current fleet consists of one Britten-Normen BN-2B Defender (serial BDF-02), one AIDC UH-1H Huey (serial BDF-11) and an unknown PA-34-200T Seneca, which was handed over to the BDF more recently, and for which Scramble Magazine still lack a BDF-serial.
The Cessna 208B EX will be the fourth asset on strength and its official handover is planned for 1 March 2023.
