On Thursday 21 October 2021, the Elliniki Polemiki Aeroporia (HAF, Helenic Air Force) and Al Quwwat Al Jawwiya Il Misriya (EGAF, Egyptian Air Force) held a joint operational exercise named "GRC EGY EX07".

In April 2021, Greece and Egypt signed a collaboration contract as part of a Military Cooperation Programme. This exercise, held near and over Crete, the largest of Greek islands.

The purpose of the exercise was to provide high quality aviation training to the participating crews, in a high threat environment, with the integration and operational utilisation of 4th generation aircraft, as well as their familiarisation and coordination in the air battle.

The exercise had two phases, and in between participating aircraft of both countries landed for refueling at Chania/Ioannis Daskalogiannis, also known as Soúda air base.

Egypt participated with four MiG-29Ms from 104 TFW, two F-16C Fighting Falcons from 95 TFS and an E-2C Hawkeye from 87 Squadron.

Greece joined the exercise with Soúda base F-16C/D Fighting Falcons from 340 Mira Aleppou (Fox) and 343 Mira Asteri (Star). The HAF also paricipated with an EMB145H AEW&C from 380 Mira ASEPE Uranos (Sky), based at Elefsis. The Hawkeye did not land at Soúda air base, but stayed inside the Cairo Flight Information Region (FIR).
