Indonesia shelves Mirage 2000-5 acquisition
The Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU, Indonesian Air Force) has shelved its plan to acquire twelve Mirage 2000-5DDA/EDA from Qatar as stop-gap measure before the first dozen Rafales arrive in 2026.
The government could not get a loan secured for this deal on the financial market. The USD 800 million acquisition has been put on hold and the money will be used to upgrade the Su-27/30 and F-16s fleets.
Although the Mirage 2000 seemed a surprise choice a year ago, they still have around 70% of their airframe lifes in them. It is unknown what will happen with the Qatari Mirages now.
