As part of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the military intervention against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Aeronautica Militare (ItAF, Italian Air Force) Panavia Tornados have flown 4,000 hours through the skies of the OIR area of operations and recognized 5,000 targets by their high-definition onboard sensors.

The Italian Tornados, belonging to the Ghedi Air Force based 6° Stormo (Wing) Alfredo Fusco are operating out of Ahmed Al Jaber air base (Kuwait) as part of Task Group Devil

The AM Tornado IDS' have arrived in Kuwait on 12 August 2020. They replaced the Eurofighter F-2000s of the Task Group Typhoon, which had been deployed since 26 March 2019, when they replaced the Task Group Black Cats equipped with the AMX.

The mission of the AM Tornados over the OIR area of operations is to carry out reconnaissance missions with their RecceLite pod. The specialized  reconnaissance pod is used on various combat, light and heavy aircraft to collect high-resolution images of wide areas from different spectral bands, in long range or vertical photography. Mission plans can be carried out automatically or manually.
