Jordan Provides Air Support to UN Mission in the DRC
The al-Quwwat al-Jawwiya al-Malakiya al-Urduniya (RJAF, Royal Jordanian Air Force) is participating in a UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
On 14 May 2024, Major General Al-Huneiti, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) escorted out the RJAF helicopter unit that was baptized 'Congo 1' for the mission.
The helicopter unit will operate under the MONUSCO flag, the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the DRC. The RJAF has a long history of UN missions that the current mission to the DRC can build on.
The ceremony took place at King Abdullah II air base and a small show of force involving two Black Hawk helicopters was given.
At least two UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters of 30 Squadron and two UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters of 8 Squadron were painted in the white UN colours, sporting clear UN stencils on the fuselage.
