Still soldiering on! Recently, Bell UH-1N Twin Huey 69-6652 from the 40th Helicopter Squadron "Pathfinders" was photographed by Billings Spotter while flying out of Malmstrom AFB (MT).
Based at Malmstrom, situated near near Great Falls, this particular 40th HS UH-1N, conveniently carrying the MM code (Malmstrom Montana), is a light-lift utility helicopter that is used to support various missions. The primary missions include: airlift of emergency security forces, security and surveillance of off-base nuclear weapons convoys, and distinguished visitor airlift. Other uses include: disaster response operations, Search And Rescue (SAR), medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), airborne cable inspections, support to aircrew survival school, aerial testing, routine missile site support for the the 341st Missile Wing and general transport.
Eventually, The MH-139A Grey Wolf will replace the USAF-fleet of obsolete UH-1Ns. Last year September, Scramble Magazine first wrote on the acceptance of the Grey Wolf and earlier in December 2019 on the name of the new helicopter.
Next to Malmstrom AFB, the Twin Hueys in the aforementioned role are also based at Cheyenne/Francis E. Warren AFB (WY) and Minot AFB (ND). According to the Scramble database, the following UH-1Ns are still operational:
