On 29 October 2023, uncoded USAF Lockheed Martin (Sikorsky) HH-60W Jolly Green II, with serial number 17-14486, was loaded into 60th Air Mobility Wing's C-5M Super Galaxy 86-0023.
Before flown back to the Continental United States (CONUS), the HH-60W had been operated by the 303rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, part of the 406th Air Expeditionary Wing which is based at Camp Lemonnier (Djibouti). It is believed that, since the end of 2022, after Jolly Green IIs were sighted for the first time in and over Africa, they are largely deployed in support of HH-60W operational tests.
The 303rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron is an USAF provisional unit. Reactivated in 2013, the squadron is permanently deployed to Djibouti in support of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HoA).
