The end of the Luftwaffe (German Air Force) C-160D Transall is drawing near. The time has been planned somewhere at the end of 2021. With a special paint job, Lufttransportgeschwader 63 (LTG63) based at Hohn air base in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) says goodbye to the Luftwaffe's workhorse.
On 16 November 2020, Scramble Magazine wrote about the Last call for the Luftwaffe C-160D Transall.
It is reported that in September 2021 LTG63 will be disbanded and this will also see the end of the Luftwaffe's Transall era.
For the dignified farewell, the past weeks a special "Goodbye Tour" paint was applied on LTG63's C-160D 50+40. The Transall, short for Transporter Allianz, is now adorned with the years, each under a wing 1968 and 2021 and the titles "Weltweit im einsatz", meaning "Deployed all over the world". With the special paint, LTG63 wanted to show the history of the Luftwaffe's C-160D. From the very beginning with the orange Day-glo special paint markings till the white markings of the United Nations deployed C-160s.
