On 25 August 2021, Armada de Mexico - Fuerza Aeronaval (Mexican Navy) Mi-17-1V with serial ANX-2218 (construction number 96613) crashed at a sports field near Agua Blanca in the state of Hidalgo.
A video release shows the helicopter suffering loss of power and the pilots have great difficulty to land the helicopter. Just before hitting the ground, it strikes a passing buss and the tailboom is severed from the fuselage. The helicopter can be assessed as a write-off.
According to the information that has been released, the Mi-17-1V was carrying a group of officials, including the Secretary of Government of Veracruz, who flew over the towns affected by the recent passage of Hurricane Grace. Some occupants were reported injured after the crash of the helicopter. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The Mi-17-1V was most probably operated by Escuadrón Aeronaval 031, based at BAN Colonia Federal which is part of Mexico City/Licenciado Benito Juarez International Airport.
