More helicopters for the Dominican Republic
On 14 February 2023, the Ejército de República Dominicana (ERD, Dominican Republic Army) received two Bell TH-67A Creek helicopters. The two Creeks, a Bell 206B variant, were formerly operated by the 1-223rd Aviation Regiment at Fort Rucker (AL) with the US Army. They will be used to enhance the army’s capabilities in the border area with neighbouring Haiti.
The helicopters of the Dominican Republic Army are operated by the 1er Escuadrón de Caballeria Aérea (1st squadron of the air cavalry), which operates its assets in two company’s, A and B. The fleet is made up of the survivors of eight former US Army OH-58A/C Kiowas, delivered in 2003, and a handful of Robinson R22 Betas and R44 Ravens in stunning camouflage colours out of Santo Domingo – Higuero / Dr Joaquin Belaguer airport.
Both Creeks were delivered in their US Army standard white-orange colours, with serials ERD-2000 and ERD-2001 applied. The Creeks are the former N67356 (c/n 5144) and N67620 (c/n 5179), however the tie-ups with their new serials are not yet known.
On the same day, the Fuerza Aérea de República Dominicana (FARD, Dominican Republic Air Force) received the last pair of six Bell UH-1H Super Huey IIs, which were flown from the US to San Isidro air base on that day. Scramble Magazine reported first on previous deliveries in December 2022 and January 2023. The two latest deliveries comprise of 3076 (c/n 13184, ex N72594 US Customs and Border Patrol) and 3077 (c/n 13467, ex N418NA NASA).
Moreover, the FARD will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sunday 19 February 2023 at San Isidro air base with a large air show.
