Nederlands Transport Museum will close its doors
According to an article in the Dutch daily journal ‘Haarlems Dagblad’, the Nederlands Transport Museum (NTM) located in Nieuw-Vennep (NL) has decided to close its doors on 5 March 2023. The current location of this transport museum, in the former Lucas Bols liquor factories, has always been a temporary one.
For several years the plan was to relocate the museum to a facility in the future recreational Park21 between Nieuw-Vennep and Hoofddorp.
Unfortunately, these plans have turned out to be impossible to materialise and several alternative locations came under consideration. The board of the NTM still has to choose a new location out of the six (not publicly announced) that are on the shortlist.
The Nederlands Transport Museum is more than a museum: it houses some 35 organisations active in the field of preservation and restoration of airplanes, boats, busses, cars and trains, but also plastic and railway modelling. Considering the new location of the NTM is not too far away from Nieuw-Vennep as these organisations are likely to move together with the museum collection.
