Nepal Army Air Wing M28 Skytruck
In October 2024, PZL Mielec conducted multiple test flights with one of the new M28 Skytruck light utility aircraft destined for the Nepal Army Air Wing.
The aircraft, temporarily registered as SP-DGY (c/n AJE003-53), was featured in several YouTube videos by Marcin Bobro. Its future serial number will be NA-067.
The Nepal Army Air Wing is set to receive two M28 Skytrucks. These aircraft were ordered in February 2023 when the US Department of Defense announced a USD 30,3 million contract under the Foreign Military Financing programme. The contract includes aircraft training, spare parts, and technical support services, with delivery expected by April 2025.
These new aircraft will enhance the Nepalese Army's capacity for cargo transport, medical evacuation, and personnel movement across the country's challenging terrain.
The M28 Skytruck's high-wing design and robust landing gear allow it to operate efficiently in Nepal’s mountainous regions. Its versatility and reliability make it a valuable asset, improving the Army’s operational reach for both military and humanitarian missions.
Based in Kathmandu, the new Skytrucks will join two others supplied by the USAF in 2019. The M28’s Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) capabilities make it ideal for Nepal’s high-altitude, short-runway airstrips.
