US 758th AS C 130H 1 640New home for Pittsburgh's remaining C-130H

Having languished for more than seven years on the tarmac of the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station (PA), the remaining legacy Hercules left the base.

While C-17A Globemaster III transformation of Air Force Reserve Command's 758th Airlift Squadron, part of the 911th Airlift Wing has been completed for years now, there still could be a C-130H found at Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station, co-located with Pittsburgh International Airport.

In 2017, a critical inspection of legacy C-130H 87-9282 revealed a crack in the left wing flap box. With repair costs estimated to be at least USD 500.000, the aircraft was deemed unfit for service and written off.

Ever since than, the Hercules sat idle while plans for its disposition were developed. Discussions ranged from creating a static display on base to transferring the aircraft to other National Guard units, but logistical challenges delayed its final fate.

For now, they have found a new home and purpose. The disassembly of 87-9282 started in October of 2024.

The Hercules left Pittsburgh by road on 3 December 2024.
