New Mi-171SH “Storm” helicopter

During the recent International Military-Technical Forum ARMY-2020, Russian Helicopters, subsidiary of the Rostec company, presented its new Mi-171SH “Storm” helicopter.

It is developed in the Ulan-Ude aircraft factory and the prototype of the Mi-171SH shows the improvements over earlier models of the Mi-171. The “Storm” is equipped with new IBKV-17VP "Glass cabin" flight control equipment, and a new main rotor system. This includes new composite rotor blades of the modified profile and an X-shaped tail rotor. The engines are upgraded for operations at high altitudes.

In its attack role, the “Storm” is bound to benefit from the new OPS-24N-1L target sight system. The helicopter will be armed with both 12.7 mm machine guns as well as guided missiles. Two sliding doors on each side and a ramp in the stern give the opportunity to launch ultra-fast landings of ground troops. On the defensive side, the Mi-171SH offers higher security for its crew through the addition of titanium and Kevlar armour protection for both cockpit and cabin.
