Offutt started moving to Lincoln
By moving "Open Skies" 45th Reconnaissance Squadron OC-135B 61-2672/OF to Lincoln Airport (NE) on 1 February 2021, the temporary relocation of USAF's 55th Wing has started.
As written by us on 8 November 2020, all flyable 55th Wing aircraft and its mission partners (US Navy E-6B Mercury TACAMO airborne command post aircraft) will operate from Lincoln Airport for a period of eighteen months.
In that period, US military and contractors will replace the flight line and runway at Offutt, which is expected to be completed in 2022.
The relocation process will continue over the next few weeks with all aircraft scheduled to be in Lincoln by the beginning of March 2021.
Planning for the USD 144 million runway replacement transition has been ongoing for years at Offutt. Part of that process also included a USD 30 million upgrade to portions of the Lincoln Airport parking area, renovating an old hangar and building a temporary hangar.
