Peru deploys Bell 412 to Antarctic
On 18 December 2023, Peru's 30th scientific mission to the Antarctic kicked off when the oceanographic research ship BAP Carrasco (BOP-171) departed Lima.
In support of this, the Fuerza Aérea del Peru (FAP, Peruvian Air Force) deployed Bell 412 629 to be based at scientific station 'Machu Picchu' on King George island on 31 December 2023.
KC-130H Hercules 396 was acting as support aircraft for this deployment, and Chilean airfields Punta Arenas and Teniente Rodolfo Marsh Martin were used as staging points.
The mission will see the ship make two survey cruises and support flights by FAP will be required for this as well.
If all goes according to plan the ship will start its return journey on 2 March 2024.
