Philippine Mars lands in San Francisco (updated)
On 9 February 2025 Martin JRM-3 C-FLYK 'Philippine Mars' landed safely in San Francisco Bay, after a 4 and 1/2 hrs flight.
Although Flightradar24 indicated that the Mars started its journey in Bamfield, it actually took off from its longterm residence Port Alberni (BC) at Sproat Lake. We @Scramble stand corrected in this by many of our followers!
After its flight, it touched down in the Bay south of Alameda Point. From there it taxied to the Seaplane Lagoon where it spent the night. Watch the landing of 'Philippine Mars' on San Fracisco Bay in this YouTube video.
The next leg of the trip would initially take the iconic seaplane to San Diego. But the crew obviously decided on 10 February to skip San Diego and, passing Palm Springs, they headed to Arizona.
Having completed its final flight 'Philippine Mars' landed at Lake Pleasant, just North of Phoenix. From there it is still at least 250 kms. to its final destination: the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson (AZ). For this journey by road the Mars will have to be partially dismantled.
