Seafire and Spitfire news

Supermarine Seafire SX336 (c/n FLWA/25488) , on its return to flight Scramble magazine reported on 19 November 2021, has found a new home. The Seafire Mk XVII (G-KASX) has joined the Navy Wings flying collection.

Acquiring this rare naval version of the Spitfire has become possible thanks to a major donation for this specific goal by the Charity Navy Wings. The major donation also included a spare Rolls Royce Griffon VI engine critical to the Seafire’s long term sustainability. SX336 will be based at RNAS Yeovilton, the homebase of most Navy Wings aircraft.

More Supermarine related news comes from Sywell: Air Leasing / Ultimate Warbird Flights took delivery of a former Indian Air Force Spitfire Mk.XVIII which they will be returning to flight. The fighter still carries its last Indian serial HS674 (c/n 6S/676555). Initially flown by the RAF as TZ219, it became HS683 when delivered to India. The serial was later changed into HS674.

The airframe was used as an instructional airframe at the Punjab Engineering College until 2019. Despite its use for almost sixty years this Griffon powered Spitfire is still in remarkably good condition. As far as we know, HS674 will be restored to flight to become another star of the Indian Air Force Historic Flight.
