Second batch of NAF A-29s on their way
On 17 September 2021, the second batch of six Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Sierra Nevada/Embraer A-29B Super Tucanos arrived at Keflavik (Iceland) for a stop over.
Due to severe weather conditions over Iceland, the aircraft's departure to Prestwick (UK) and further is delayed. The previous delivery transited Prestwick on 19 July 2021.
The A-29s have two different types of camouflage, desert and forest/jungle. The total fleet of twelve Super Tucanos is split in half for the camouflage pattern.
The first NAF Super Tucano took the skies for its inaugural flight on 16 April 2020. Pilots and maintenance crew were trained with the 81st Fighter Squadron Panthers at Moody AFB (GA). The A-29Bs were purchased through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme and includes spare parts for several years of operation, contract logistics support, munitions, and a multi-year construction project to improve Kainji Air Base infrastructure.
The following aircraft have arrived at Keflavik accompanied by support aircraft Dornier 328 D-CAAN.
