Slovakia donates helicopters to Ukraine
On 16 June 2022, the Slovakian Minister of Defence, Jaroslav Nagy, reported that the country donated one Mil Mi-2 and four Mil Mi-17s transport helicopters to Ukraine. According to the information, these former Vzdušné sily Ozbrojených síl Slovenskej Republiky (SAF, Slovak Air Force) helicopters have already been replaced by the Sikorsky UH-60M Black hawk.
Slovakia already repairs and modernises Ukraine military equipment in the Konstrukta Defense repair plant in Moldava nad Bodvou. Konstrukta Defense is the manufacturer of the 155mm self-propelled Howitzer Zuzana 2. Early June, Jaroslav Nagy announced that Ukraine signed a contract for the production and supply of eight self-propelled Howitzers to Ukraine.
The Slovak Air Force had around ten Mi-17s operational, but with the delivery of the Black Hawks there is less need for the Mi-17. All Mi-2s were withdrawn from use some years ago.
