During the weekend of 11 and 12 May 2024, the 30th edition of the Stampe Fly-in was organised at Antwerp Airport, Belgium. The sympathetic event was launched years ago by the local Stampe & Vertongen museum as a tribute to the two most famous Belgian airplane designers/builders.
As could be expected several examples of their most successful design, the SV-4 biplane were present. Not only the locally built former Belgian Air Force SV-4s, either with open or enclosed cockpit but also several SV-4s built in France by SCAN. Fifteen of these trainers took off for a formation flight in the sunny skies over Antwerp. OO-PAM on the photo below was one of them.
As announced in our post of 11 May, Curtiss P-40 Warhawk OO-WHK was the star of the Fly-in but there were more warbirds: Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI SL721(OO-XVI) could be admired next to North American T-28 Trojan OO-LGY, and three Harvards (N3286, N4109C and OO-DAF)
De Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk OO-CII is one of Belgium’s latest novelties: it is painted in the colours of a Belgian Air Force Chippie with serial C2.
The oldest plane at the Fly-in was definitely N12467, a beautiful WACO UEC built in 1932.
