Thunder Over Michigan MiG-23 crash
The privately owned Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23UB Flogger C with registration N23UB (former 8107 of the Czech Air Force, msn 1038107) was destroyed when it crashed near an apartment complex during the Thunder over Michigan air show, near Willow Run Airport (MI). Both pilots ejected at low altitude and one of them landed in Belleville Lake.
This was the 25th year of the Thunder Over Michigan (one of the leading airshows in the United States) show, which started on Saturday and was set to conclude on Sunday. The show was stopped after the crash and spectators were asked to leave.
Videos on X (the new name for Twitter) show both pilots ejecting, with the MiG in a shallow left turn, before crashing. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
