USS San Antonio visits Plymouth
On Sunday 18 April 2021, US Navy's amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD-17) arrived at Devonport Royal Navy Base near Plymouth (UK) for replenishments and recuperation, USS San Antonio (SAN) sailed out of Naval Station Norfolk (VA) on 30 March 2021.
SAN is currently deploying with the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) that also consists of amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) and the dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD-50).
Although no marching orders or next stops for the ARG have been stated, it is expected that the ships will either sail to the Norwegian Sea followed by a part of the Barents Sea or they will sail to the Strait of Gibraltar and from here to the Bosporus to enter the Black Sea, or set sail to the Middle East.
The following US Marines flying assets, all being part of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162 (Reinforced) were seen on the SAN whilst visiting Plymouth:
