VH-92A headed for IOC in July 2021

The Sikorsky VH-92A, is planned for Initial Operational Capability (IOC) in July 2021, as the US Navy reported.

That does not mean that the VH-92A, the next generation of executive transport helicopter for the president of the United States, will be ready for its operational task within Marine Helicopter Squadron (HMX) 1 as that decision will be made by the White House.

The VH-92A was selected in 2014 to replace the VH-3D and VH-60N types. So far twelve VH-92As are ordered (six in 2019 and six in February 2020). Eventually, HMX-1 that is based at MCAS Quantico (VA) with a detachment at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington will get 23 VH-92As, comprised of 21 operational fleet aircraft and two test aircraft.

The presidential helicopter fleet is operated by Marine Helicopter Squadron One, based at Marine Corps Air Station Quantico, Va., with a detachment at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington D.C. (MD).

In the meantime, on 18 November 2020, Sikorsky was awarded a USD 16,5 million modification contract (part of Fiscal Year 2021) to continue with modification and rework sustainment efforts in support of the VH-3D/VH-60N executive helicopter fleet. This work must be done by November 2021, so it is expected that both types will continue to fly through 2022 alongside the HMX-1 MV-22B Ospreys and, when the White House approves quickly, the VH-92A.

The Scramble database shows the following forty operational entires of the HMX-1 inventory. We love to see (last-notes) updates on these, please notify This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your findings.
