This is the major army airfield of the Australian armed forces. It doubles as a small civil airfield, albeit with only four flights a week, and houses a Singapore AF helicopter squadron as well.
The airfield has three runways and the army facilities are to the south of runway 09/27. The western part is used by the Singapore Air Force and the eastern ramp by the Australian Army Air Force. The small civil ramp is in the far southeast corner, little or no activity there usually. Although there are some roads along the perimeter, there seems to be no nice spot to get an overview here. The distance is simply too great, maybe do-able in mid-winter with excellent weather conditions from Oakey-Coorey Road.
The airfield is to the west of Brisbane. Take highway A2 to Toowoomba and from there onward to Oakey. Take the 54 road to the village. Follow this to the railway tack and cross it northbound, this is just past the station. You will now be on Beale Street and this leads to the base.
