CFB Borden is a main training base. Apart from the unit responsible for this, the School of Aerospace Technology & Engineering, Borden also houses a helicopter squadron equipped with CH-146 Griffons.
The base has an open base policy. The three runways are out of use, although an exception was recently made for an airshow! Many small hangars are situated in a long row. The large new hangars house most the aircraft though. Sometimes taxiing aircraft can be seen as they are used to train marshallers! The future of the old wooden hangars is uncertain. Hopefully with the heritage of Borden in mind, they will be preserved.
CFB Borden is to the southwest of the village which is itself southwest of Barrie. From highway 400, take roadno.90. You will pass a preserved red T-33AN near Angus. In Angus the road forks sharply to the left near the McDonalds. Follow this road and keep to your left. A preserved CH-136 marks the entrance to the base.
