General

Worldfamous Acapulco needs no introduction. The airfield is the main gateway to this resort town. Apart from daily international flights bringing loads of tourists, the airfield is frequented by bizjets. The attorney-general maintains a fairly large detachment and a handful of naval aircraft can usually be found here as well. The airport also serves the Alextremo air show, which is usually held in November over Acapulco Bay.

Layout

Acapulco has two runways of which 10/28 usually handles the airliners, smaller aircraft use runway 06/24. All facilities are located to the north side of the main runway. The south side of the airfield is covered in dense tropical vegetation, allowing only limited views of activities.

Getting There

You will arrive at the airport by plane or by car from Mexico City in which case you simply follow the signs from highway 95D to the airport, which will lead you to road no. 95/200. Stay on road 95, which actually makes a loop back to road 200 after passing the airport.

Around the Airport

1Main apron

Just before reaching the airport on the Boulevard de las Naciones, the main apron can be seen on your right. Usually, some visiting bizjets and airliners can be read off from here. You may want to park your car on the parking lot and walk back to the spot.

2General aviation

From spot 1, continue to the loop road in front of the terminal building, where you can take a few sneak peeks on the general aviation platform.

3South side approach 06

Driving back to road 95, take a left turn towards the Pacific Ocean. Follow road 95, also known as Avenida Revolucion, parallel to the ocean. Although the 06 threshold is well hidden behind trees, if in use, aircraft on finals can be seen from the road 95/Avenida Revolucion. Just find yourself a spot, preferably on the beach...

4South side runway 28

Only one spot is known for graphing on runway 28, which is mostly used. After passing a residential area just past spot 3, take Monterrey to the left, which leads to a small residential area, just south of the airfield. After the road bends to the right it becomes San Luis Potosi. Try one of the dirt roads on your left. Park your car here, climb the wall and enjoy working on your tan.
