The Portuguese training base is situated about 5 miles North West of Beja. The base is home the the PAF Alpha Jets, Epsilons and a squadron of Alouette 3s. It does not offer a lot from the outside. Being a large base situated in a rather desolate environment it is not surrounded by the roads that lead to success. All with coloured roads that look OK are dirt roads that are part of agricultural companies and are signposted as 'off limits'.
01L approach
The only spot found to view the operational aircraft is the 01L (and R) approach. From this spot you can not see the runway but landing shots (and reading the serials) is OK from here. The circling Epsilons tend to perform approaches on 19R as well which is a bit further away and difficult to combine with a position for 19L. To get here you take the exit towards 'S. Brissos' and 'Trigaches' from the IP8/N121. Following this road you will automatically end up between the runway approach lights.
Gate
To compensate for the lack of good opportunities the gate offers a view of the aircraft preserved on a pole here. To get to the gate continue towards Beja on the N121 and turn left onto the IP2/N18. From this road you can exit towards 'BA11/Air Base'. This road, again almost the only one around, will lead you to the main gate.
Travelling the IP8/N121 from Lissabon to Beja (or the other way around) the base is quite near to Beja (North of this road).
