Being formerly a pure military airfield, home base of the VIP and transport fleet of the Soviet Navy headquarters in Moscow, in 2000 it also became home of the Moscow branch of Gazpromavia. The military still occupies the northern and northeastern part of the airfield, while Gazpromavia resides on the western and southern platforms, with a newly erected terminal building on the south-side.
On the southside a new platform was build when Gazpromavia moved here, while they also took possession of the platform on the west side of the airfield. The Russian Navy has two main platforms next to the northern taxiway, with some extra 20 dispersals along the northern and eastern taxitracks.
Leaving the main Moscow ring (MKAD) for the M2 motorway, leave the M2 immediately while still on the interchange, direction Shcherbinka. From Shcherbinka, Ostafyevo is well signposted.
As far as known, no public transportation gets to the airport terminal itself, the closest being the Shcherbinka railway station (along the Kurskiy line) or Bouninskaya Alleya station (in Chernevo/Butovo), which is the last station on the Butovskaya commuter railroad, north of the airfield.

- | In one of the dispersals on the eastern side of the airfield, the fuselage of an unidentified An-2 is dumped. It can be seen from spot 1 on the map. |
