General

Tsoying, also known as Tashien and Zuoying (due to transliteration issues), is home to the naval helicopters of the island. The base is mainly meant for the number crunchers, photographers will not like it. The base is located within a huge naval area in the township of Tsoying.

Layout

The layout of the base is quite straightforward; two parallel runways (18/36) with a platform on each end of the runways.

Getting There

The base is located on the north side of Kaohsiung. The best way to get near the base is by following road number 17 north from Kaohsiung. Once the exit towards highway number 10 appears you are very close.

Around the Airport

1Eastern side

This spot offers the opportunity to read serials on the northern platform. You might end up feeling unhappy since you will problably only see the top half of the helicopters here. The view on the lower half (or more) is obstructed by the infrastructure. A detailed description on how to get here is way too difficult. Therefore we hand you the position that your navigational system should lead you to; 22°42’26.00”N 120°17’04.00”E.

2Hotel

The second option for this base (and its inhabitants) is checking in in one of the higher hotels the township has. Unfortunately we lost track of a the name of a specific hotel that offers reasonable views on the platforms from its elevator.
