Kayseri - Erkilet

1Civil terminal

A good place to start your tour around the airfield is the civil terminal as it is well signposted in the town of Kayseri and helps your orientation. From the parking lot views of the civil apron can be obtained and you will get an overview of the northern transport ramps. As security is ever present here, you might want to leave your binoculars in your bag for now...

2CN235 ramps

The next spot can be reached by leaving the civil terminal and taking the first road to your left. Turn left again at the T-junction and head towards the fence. The airfield is surrounded by a wall, but there are many lower parts permitting good views. You may need to check some spots in this area to read off all the CN235s on their noses. Beware of nosy neighbours here!

3Transall ramps

From spot 2 just follow the fence through the myriad of roads here, until you can easily see the Transall ramps. You may need to check some spots in this area to read off all the Transalls on their noses. And the same warning for neighbours applies here. Just hit and run.

4Approach 07 and Hercules ramps

Possibly the spot with most possibilities is spot 4. From the civil terminal, turn right at the main road and turn right again, keep going west. Turn right once again at the next main intersection, this road leads uphill. Spot four is situated fairly high, which makes it an ideal vantage point for checking the Hercules ramps. You may have to move a little further on the same road to get the right angle to read them all off. Theoretically, you will be able to make great shots of aircraft landing on runway 07, if there were only not too many people around... From spot 4, the base museum can also be seen, right across the runway, just left of the main Hercules apron.

5Maintenance ramps & storage

From spot 4, go around the 07 threshold by taking a right turn at the T-junction. This roads leads to Erkilet village. On your way past the threshold, you will see the other side of the museum and the back of the maintenance hangars with the Dakotas in storage behind them. Try some of the dirt roads on the right, leading between the houses to make sure you can see them all.

6Approach 25

Approach 25 can be reached as well if you continue going east from spot 3. It's hard to explain from here, so you might want to try another main road leading northeast in stead of trying to get through the myriad of roads here. Just off the main road, there's a small dirt road on your left which should give you excellent opportunities for aircraft on finals for runway 25.
