Springfield-Beckley is an airport with a civil and a military part. The civil aircraft are mainly the one- or two-propeller driven aircraft and some small jet aircraft. The military part is home of the Ohio Air National Guard. In 2005, the BRAC determined that the Ohio ANG should leave Springfield-Beckley MAP. After re-evaluation they determined that the 178FW shall stay over here. In 2006 the Dutch Government signed an agreement with the USAF concerning a relocation of the RNLAF-F-16 training squadron from Volkel AB to Springfield-Beckley. In total 14 RNLAF F-16s (9 F-16AMs and 5 F-16BMs) conducted their training flights from this airfield. The first F-16s arrived in April 2007, but in 2010 this contract ended and all Dutch F-16's moved to Tucson, AZ. That 178FW will also loose their F-16s and will be transfered to operate with MQ-1 Predators. The Predators will only be controlled from here but not physically present at the airfield.
The airport is located along State Route 794, just a few miles south of Springfield,OH. The easiest way to get here coming from the I-70 is by taking the exit towards highway 68, near the city of Springfield. Take highway 68 in southern direction towards Yellow Springs/Xenia. This road passes west of the airport and is also shown on the map above.
