The prime air defence (Tempur Sergap) fighter of the TNI-AU is the Su-27/Su-30 Flanker, here represented by the first Su-27SK. Between September 2003 and September 2013, sixteen Flankers were received by 11 Squadron where they replaced the A-4E Skyhawk.

The main tactical fighter (Tempur Taktis) force is formed by 1 Squadron and 12 Squadron which received forty Hawks from May 1996. They replaced the Bronco with 1 Squadron and the Skyhawk with 12 Squadron.

The Hawks have all been painted in this toned down grey colours. This is TL-0112, the more familiar two seat Hawk Mk109.

The PZL-104 Wilga, or locally known as Gelatic (Rice Bird), was introduced in December 1964. Some 22 were assembled from Polish kits in Bandung, a further seventeen were manufactured locally. Final delivery was in October 1979. Today, a few remain operational as glider tugs with the FASI.
