Lufthansa planning new narrowbody orders
German aviation news site aeroTelegraph is reporting that the Lufthansa Group is planning to place orders for new narrowbody aircraft. In total, the company is planning to order 40 aircraft for its new subsidiary City Airlines, as well as 40 aircraft for the group's mainline operations.
The order for City Airlines will be for either the Airbus A220 or the Embraer E2. This new subsidiary is set to launch later this year. It will have Munich as its homebase and will start-up with Airbus A319s coming over from Lufthansa.
The order for the mainline operations will be for either the Airbus A320neo-family or the Boeing B737MAX-family. The MAX is specifically mentioned in a video update by the Group's CEO, which would be an interesting development.
According to aeroTelegraph, the orders are to be placed before the start of the 2024 summer season, which begins in March next year.
