Beside its three crews (including a female co-pilot), part of the resupply flight were three Malaysian Army soldiers from 6th Royal Malay Regiment (6RAMD) based at Tok Jalai Camp in Kepala Batas, Kedah.
The Army had maintained an outpost in Pulau Perak, Malaysia’s most western border landmark neighbouring Indonesia which is actually a big rocky outcrop in the Straits of Melaka. While attempting to land at 1125H, the helicopter had experience strong cross wind prompting the pilot to perform emergency landing at the island.
Unfortunately though, the helicopter suffered engine problem causing it to lose control and hard landed on a rocky cliff. Had it not been for the expertise and quick thinking of the helicopter’s pilot, things could have become much worse.
