RIAT 2014 July 11/12/13 RAF Fairford chit chat

This is the invited list, what value does that hold :?
They can invite the whole world (which they basically did), but still have the worst show ever....

Time will tell what invitations will materialise. I was only pointing out that there had been an update on the website.

Last year most countries never got any further than being invited.

A bit more than that. It;s a RIAT invitation list. How many of these services will pass the stage of being invited is to be seen in the coming 6 months. (Last year more than half didn't)

As is the case with most airshows, a lot of countries get invited, some pass up the opportunity, some might just come.

Best thing to do is wait and see.. and be happy when you see something you haven't seen before... :D

Harald, always happpy to be at the RIAT

We were instead offered a static position for XH558 crowd-side with a nearby site for the Vulcan Village. However we have a duty of care to those of our volunteers who staff the Vulcan Village not to risk exposing them to visitors expecting to see XH558 flying who complain that she is not.
:?: :?: :?:

If the Vulcan is on the RIAT site as being a static display aircraft, people won't have a reason to complain I would say. And "risk exposing" the volunteers....???
Sounds like there is more behind this to me. A shame however, a Vulcan is always a nice sight!

I guess I have been spoiled at RIAT in the past but going through the lists of confirmed visitors I can not help thinking on how dissapointing the flying and static displays are (again) this year for a show you pay so much money for. Although I appreciated their budget restrains this year, I'm also amazed that the USAF is not attending, despite all that hardware based in the UK.
Despite regular follow-up, it wasn't until the beginning of May that we were notified the Saturday display programme was full and that the only opportunity to display (the Vulcan) might be on the Sunday. Today, we have been informed that the Sunday display is now full, and that RIAT's offer of a Vulcan display on the Sunday had consequently been withdrawn.
:?

And to decline the Vulcan a place in the flying display is the biggest mistake ever. I think many people will not bother to come now. And thus less funds for the charities will be collected.

Shame

As from what has been filtered through (not only from VTTS, but also the answers given to their baby-crying from RIAT) the choice was to have the Vulcan and having to scrub the Reds jubilee celebrations and upset a number of airforces (including the RAF) which could have its impact for longer then the Vulcan will be around, or scrub the Vulcan and have the Reds celebrations that have been announced for over a year already going on.
