May 1, 2014
ESKISEHIR, TURKEY: A retired Boeing 727-200F aircraft from FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), was donated today to the aviation department at Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey.
FedEx representatives formally handed over the cargo aircraft, which will now remain on the ground, during a ceremony at Eskişehir Anadolu Airport.
Students will use the plane as a hands-on training tool as part of their aviation course. The aircraft is the 80th 727 freighter donated by FedEx for educational and training purposes since the company began retiring its 727 fleet several years ago.
The Boeing 727-200F donated in Turkey provided FedEx with 20 years of active service, transporting customer packages to destinations throughout the United States.
“Since the year 2000, FedEx has taken great pride in being able to donate these retired planes around the world,” said David Ross, senior vice president of operations for the company’s Middle East, Indian Subcontinent & Africa region.
“We are pleased that Turkey is the sixth country outside of the United States to receive one of our cargo planes for educational purposes.”
