A third Ukrainian Army Aviation Mil Mi-24 'Hind' attack helicopter has been shot down by pro-Russian forces as fighting continues to escalate in the Donetsk region.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence confirmed the loss of the helicopter on 5 May, reporting that it had been hit by heavy machine gun fire. The crew were reported to be unhurt in the incident near the town of Slavyansk, which is a stronghold of pro-Russian paramilitary forces. This follows the loss of two Mi-24s during fighting around Slavyansk on 2 May.
The helicopter, which was later destroyed by Ukranian aircraft, appeared to be a Mil Mi-24P 'Hind-F' model or the upgraded Mi-24PU1.
