Hi,
been to Romania on a road trip to various airports and airbases in 2009 and I`ve also been to the Constanta
Here it`s easy to get a view on the civil platform, but it`s a little bit more difficult to get a view on the stored MiG`s. From the opposite side runs the road No. 86, at a certain point there is a small agricultural road which runs closer to the fence. From here it should be possible to see some of the Mig29 stored in the dispersals. At the time of my visit I had to struggle with heat haze, so no joy reading the MiGs then. So I would advise an early morning visit there. But you are in very open land and in plain view from the base so I don`t know how long you will be allowed to stay there.
At the time of my visit there were no permanent units based, but the Lancers were at Fetesti then. At Fetesti flying activity with the Mig21s was low, although quite a couple were on the flightline. I remember two were in the air then and a some IAR330s.
At Campia Turzii I have not been, but at Boboc, Timisoara, Brasov, Bukarest and Fetesti.
Boboc and Fetesti are good for spotting from outside, as you can get quite close to the platforms and see a lot. At Boboc it`s also good for taking picture. Generally I had no problems with guards and police but I tried to stay low profile all the time.
