Grounded Fighter Jet Destroyed by Missile Strike

Rebel forces were reported to have destroyed a Syrian regime aircraft at the Aleppo International Airport on January 12.

The attack destroyed a MiG-23 fighter aircraft, according to the Syrian rebel unit Harakat Hazm (Steadfastness Movement), which shared this video on their YouTube channel and posted tweets about the assault.

Harakat Hazm formed in January 2014 and merged 22 separate rebel units, according to the Washington Institute.

It is organized into two regional sections — northern and southern.

In the northern section, they operate in Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama provinces. Harakat Hazm’s insignia is a stylized sword, which bears the movement’s name. That logo is visible in this video.

This MiG-23 sure looks like one of the ex-Belarus MiG-23MLD's that were supplied to Syria. These were stored and some overhauled at Allepo. The large grey patch on tail tail is probably the red star painted out, so this MiG-23 is one of the stored aircraft.
