Thailand signs contract to buy six EC145 helicopters

The Royal Thai Army (RTA) has signed a contract with Airbus Helicopters to purchase six EC145 T2 light utility helicopters for VIP transport duties, it was announced on 23 February.
The value of the EC145 T2 contract, which IHS Jane's understands was signed in late January, has not been disclosed but is estimated to be worth about USD50 million.
Under the terms of the contract, the helicopters will be delivered to the RTA from 2016.
An Airbus Helicopters spokesperson told IHS Jane's that the contract with the RTA reflects the company's "extensive local footprint" in Southeast Asia and its commitment to invest in the region through the establishment of customer support centres.
