Athens Flying Week - Dekelia-Tatoi, 12 and 13 September 2015

Post by Fogg »

Incomplete log, only stuff that interested me
Flying unless indicated otherwise

N111FS / 'SU+LL' Fieseler Storch, Argus-powered, probably an MS.500?)
N133BJ / 'U-56' Bü 131 Jungmeister
N315KM / '31-P-5' PBV Canso (static only, based, reportedly has not flown in years)
N500MR / '434769K' On Mark Marketeer (converted A-26B Invader, static only)

57+05 Do 228, static only
807 M-18BS Dromader
69-7185 T-41D
nn 2 x Mirage 2000 (poor hi-alt display)
nn 2 x F-4E Phantom (even worse display)
114 MiG-29
PN 30 AB.212ASW
PN 59 S-70B Aegean Hawk
023 T-6A Texan II
ES 1009 AH-64A
nn AH-64A (static only)
9 x Orlik Team Orlik
523 Zeus F-16CJ

SX-OBG DHC-8-Q400 (spectacular low pass, Saturday only)
nn Aegean A320 (Sunday only)
G-WZRD EC-120 Colibri
LY-LJK Su-31
SX-HMK Bo 105
SX-MPK Maule (glider tug)
D-ITPI Ce 340 (fly-in visitor)
TC-EST Trinidad (remarkable perhaps at a Greek military airfield)
nn Erickson S-64F Skycrane (non-flying, seen near museum area)

All jets and the Orliks operated from other airfields even though the runway is almost 2km long. Light for photography gets poor here after 2PM, but alternative outside spots at the Rwy 03 end are within a short walking distance.

A shuttle bus run to the museum on the north side during the mornings. There's a rare SB2C Helldiver in the museum hangar, unfortunately in a dark corner. The eastern rows of the museum were off limits for some reason. I was briefly admitted there by a friendly officer, but told not to photograph towards the east, including the stored Grumman Ag-Cats. After a few minutes the officer got a phone call and I had to leave.

I stayed in the Kifisia district, but be aware that city bus 504 was diverted on the airshow days. I ended up walking the whole way, which was not too far but rather unpleasant due to main roads without sidewalks, hilly terrain and lots of dogs.

A seaside 'pre-show' was held off Athens-Faliro (Phaleron) on Wed 9. The Saudi Hawks team displayed there but not at Tatoi. I noted them at ATH airport on the 11th, with two C-130s in support including 1622.

According to the FAA, N111FS is an MS502.

And supposedly built in 1941... so something is wrong there.
The MS.502 was radial engined, it might have been re-engined I suppose, but according to another source it is ex C-FIWG, and an MS.500.
