Le Bourget/Dugny storage visit 22-10-2017

Post by Numbercruncher »

Hiya!

Before running off to Chiévres in order to score a few US Army helo's, on Sunday the 22nd we visited the Dugny side of Le Bourget, to view their stored collection.

The following was seen (I've added a screenshot showing the hangars visited as well as the outside storage area here)

Hangar '1' (open):
NX664	WU-21	Lancaster In pieces, literally all over the place
Outside hangar '1', the only aircraft there:
Corvette fus
Hangar '2' (open):
WW1
4305 WW1
D-5787 WW1
		DFS-230
	V	Baroudeur
		C-713
Hangars '3' (closed):
(this is actually a set of small hangars, not completely spotter proof, but most not visible)
F-PVQI ? On wing in storage shed
		Al2 In storage shed
		MD-454 In storage shed
T-33 In storage shed, pitot tubes
280? Flamant Tail, in storage shed, unable to see if anything was actually still attached...
Outside, main storage area:
FR-30 RF-84
460	13-QR	M3
F-GCVL SE-210 Air Provence
F-WLKB Da20
		Sunderland
3x CM-170 PdF
F-BLCD 707
		727 FE
		Br941S Coded 68-ND, IY, N
71 C-47
		AC500
55 T-33
98-09 Su22
	26(rd)	MiG23
37808 Sk37
J-4099 Hunter
	30-ML	Vautour
2 Mir4
32515 J-32
35069 J-35
ID-44	44	Hunter
16-07 HFB-320
496	312-UO	Emb312
		SE-210 All silver
	EF	M3
	CA	DC-7
		C-45
162 N-2501
194 N-2501
44 N-2501
NF11-747 Meteor
		Meteor
		N-262
		MS-760 Sharks mouth, fuselage only
		He111
		HD-34
		L-749
Hangar '5' (open):
This hangar holds a lot more, but both the way the stuff is parked as well as the fact that only about 5 square meters were accessible made it quite hard to identify stuff.
AAC-1 In big hangar
		B-17 In big hangar
	12-	SMB2? In big hangar
		Venom In big hangar
		Caudron714R
		Farman
Hangar '4' (open):
435740 B-26 In second big hangar
NF11-24 Meteor In second big hangar
		Potez 25
Seen at the museum from the opposite side:
m4k
		Rafale
A1 Jaguar
64 SuE
	FE	dc-8
61 Br1150
	335	P-2
		N-262
F-ZBAY	23	CL-215
		A-380 VNO
Although I did not see everything that could be seen, and still miss some frames, I was happy with the result (especially the Short was high on my list of wannahaves).

Comparing photo's from earlier years it would seem however that they've reduced the number of open hangars. Also some of the people guarding seemed to be 'professionals' rather than enthousiasts, the budget of which might account for why less hangars were open.

Please credit when used.

Robert Weenk

The 2 WW1 a/c were Albatros D.Va replica's, behind it was LVG C.VI (9041/18), to the left was Aviatik C.1 (C227/16) and on the other side in the rig was Polikarpov I-153 (9 red).
The C-713 is Finnish C-714C1 (CA-553).
Did not see a T-33 is the shed, but the a/c to the far right with its nose to the window was J29B (29665). The Flamant tail was loose, but the rest of the fuselage was next to it.
For the benefit of Mr. Kite, there will be a show tonight on trampoline

S-29 probably seen as well, but that's a different bird. The T-33 is probably '061, as this shows the pitot tubes I've seen.

Other aircraft in this set of boxes (identified from pictures taken through cracks  ):
Yellow N-3202
Yellow T-28
2 x silver fuselage yet to be identified (Ouragan-like)
red piper Cub (with additional aircraft on both sides)

Also, I seem to have forgotten to list another hangar between 'x' and the outside storage (not on the picture), containing:
Sunderland (Erroneously mentioned before as being outside)
WW-1 (green, white goose or swan on side, on balcony)
WW-1 (rght of Sunderland, tube frame only)
		WW-1 (left of Sunderland)
Yak-18? (left of Sunderland, behind WW-1)
I'm still processing some images, but this should be it for now.

Robert

In box 1 (nearest entrance0, we saw MD311 (tail and fuselage) s/be 280, 3 x T-33s (one at back next to T-28), two at front either side of a crate, N3202? coded KQ, T-28 Femmec s/be 121, J29B s/be 29665 and Alouette II s/be 02 (next to J29)

What did you see in the large hangar, which included the B-17

Wow, you found some extra's... ;-) From where did you see the three T-birds? On the front side, or on the back?

N3202? coded KQ => from where did you see this code?

I agree that the Fennec should be 121 (Internet shows it being shipped to Dugny in a yellow colour scheme devoid of any markings). Seen from the front of the box, the Fennec was seen tail-on, with a metallic fuselage to its right and some packing material which seems to include two yellow wings blocking any view to its left.

From left to right:
Super Mystere B2 '12-..' fuselage, a cockpit (F-104?), a Farman, some WW-1 a/c, He 162, immediately behind it a blue Caudron C714, a Venom, behind it (far corner) the B-17, an AAC-1 all metal, a V-1, and behind that some cockpits (I think a Caravelle nose and a Transall procedural trainer).

It really is a shame these storages could not be explored more thoroughly...

Hi Robert

All observations were from front of hangar, including underneath where there were gaps. My colleague noted KQ which may have been part of a civil registration of another type, hence the ?.

I thought that the fuselage to the right of the Fennec was a T-33. At the front of the hangar were two more T-33s, either side of a piece of machinery, one could be seen from the extreme left of the hangar, where the J-29 and Alouette were visible, and the other from the extreme right.

In the large storage hangar, the nose next to the SMB2 was another SMB2 (s/be coded 10-SG). If you ventured past the tapes towards the SMB2s you would have seen MS760 No 1. Behind the Vampire (J-1155) was a Venom (J-1636). In the right front corner were C-160F and SE210 cockpit trainers. Towards the back was what appeared to be a PT-17 which could have been 41-8860. We noted the others you saw, but there was a lot more to be seen. I guess the heightened security situation in France made the access more difficult.

OK, couldn't find anything about this either way, so that remains a mystery for a little longer I guess...

Fuselage is definitely not a T-bird, I've got a picture of it, I'll put it in the images section.

Aircraft 'up front' was a Venom (ID's by vertical splitter plates on the wing as well as the cockpit shape), so it was probably the other way around. Unfortunately there was little venturing to be done, there was a security guard (not an aircraft enthousiast) in that corner).

And yes, I agree that the security situation in France probably caused the current situation unfortunately.

Hi Robert

Did you manage to post the image of the fuselage in the garage hangar with the Fennec. I haven't seen anything in the photo section.

Thanks
